The La Villita Heritage Society was formed in 1999 with their first event being called the Soul Food festival.  It became a non profit (501-c-3) organization in 2001.  The purpose of the organization is to assist in the relief of poverty and to promote the educational and art enrichment of under privileged youth. The event has grown from a one day event to a two day.
